healthy paws pet insurance reviews

Our top insurer of the month is a company call Healthy Paws

Healthy paws is averaging a of 4.5 to 4.7 stars! We will dive deeper into investigating why consumers are giving this company such high ratings.

Pumpkin & Healthy Paws: Key Differences

While Pumpkin and Healthy Paws both offer 1 simple plan with accident & illness insurance, there are some key differences you should be aware of when choosing which plan is right for you and your pet. Let’s dig in…

Our TOP rated insurance pick covers exam fees for accident & illness related doctor visits.

If an exam fee is related to an eligible accident or illness – The pet insurance provider we’ve highlighted below covers it!

Insurance Guide Tip Of The Day – Having a provider that covers exam fees for any unexpected emergency is a must in CloudTag’s opinion. This can be a big cost saver since exam fees are included in nearly every animal hospital or doctor bill.

Unfortunately – Healthy Paws does not cover exam fees. 🙁

Our Insurer of the Month covers behavioral issues and dental illnesses.

Healthy Paws insurance does not cover behavioral issues or dental illnesses. One of our top rated providers below covers both. With 71% of cats and 82% of dogs suffering from some form of gum disease by ages of between 3 and 4, and an estimated 43% of pet parents reporting dogs or cats with basic to severe behavioral problems, having coverage for behavioral and dental conditions can prove to be very valuable for family.

Our sponsor carriers cover illnesses. Even ones that could have been prevented.

Unfortunately, Healthy Paws doesn’t cover several diseases that could have otherwise been prevented by routine vaccinations or preventive medication. Meaning, if you screw up, and or miss a doctors appointment, and it leads to a disease, most other insurance companies leave you holding the bucket when the **** hits the fan. While most of our sponsors and Pumpkin encourages you to stay up to date with your pet’s preventive care, our key providers won’t decline to cover a serious illness like parvovirus or heartworm disease because your furry friend may have missed a vaccine or dose of preventive meds.

Need supplements or prescription food?

This CloudTags.com’s TOP insurer pick cover prescription food & supplements. Special prescription foods & supplements can be very helpful for pets suffering from a wide range of illnesses, from kidney disease to allergies. As long as a supplement or special food is prescribed by the Doc to treat a covered condition, this provider covers it. Unfortunately, Healthy Paws doesn’t cover either.

Some Insurance companies limit coverage options for certain breeds and seniors.

CloudTags.com wants to provide recommendations for TOP providers who understand pet parents and pets needs. Every pet parent is entitled to a high reimbursement rate and low deductible regardless of their pet’s breed or age.

Recommendation of the Day: It’s why everyone who enrolls in Pumpkin insurance gets 90% back on eligible vet bills and a choice of a $100, $250 or $500 annual deductible. If you ask us that’s an amazing deal and TOP VALUE! Our comparison provider Healthy Paws limits reimbursement and deductibles sometimes based on your pets age and breed. For example if you have a 8-year-old large mixed-breed dog, like a German Shepard and Labrador mix, you are only eligible for a 70% reimbursement rate.

We don’t charge extra for unlimited annual coverage you’re not likely to use.

Not everyone needs to same type of plan and or annual coverage. For this reason you should consider the differences between Healthy Paws and other providers. Healthy Paws offers unlimited annual coverage. That’s a plus and a few bonus points for Healthy Paws. Other insurance companies charge a lower monthly fee, but they don’t offer unlimited coverage. Having unlimited coverage might not be necessary for most pet parents. Statistics shows than only 3% of pupstomers file claims over $9,000 in 1 year. Meaning, if you’re in the 97% that doesn’t exceed $9k per year in claims, you most likely don’t need unlimited coverage. But again, this is just our opinion. You should consult your vet and make the right decision for your family.

Preventive care is a central part of our plan & pet care philosophy.

Healthy Paws doesn’t offer benefits to help cover the costs of your pet’s preventive care. At Pumpkin, we’re just as committed to preventing illnesses and detecting diseases early as we are to treating them. It’s why we offer our insured pet parents an optional set of benefits that fully covers crucial care pets need to stay healthy each year. Built with vets for pets, our Preventive Essentials Pack will fully refund your pet’s annual wellness exam fee; vaccines (4 for puppies, 2 for dogs, 1 for cats); a fecal “poop” test for intestinal worms (roundworms, hookworms & whipworms); and for dogs, a blood test for heartworm disease & diseases spread by ticks (lyme, ehrlichiosis & anaplasmosis).

Pets don’t have to undergo a “complete clinical exam” to be covered by Pumpkin.

Healthy Paws requires that all pets under age 6 have a “complete clinical examination” at least 12 months before or 15 days after their policy effective date. If your pet is over age 6, the exam must happen at least 30 days before or 15 days after your policy effective date. Healthy Paws also requires a record of your pet’s exam and a full medical history before they process your first claim. If they don’t receive them, payment of your claim may be affected. A clinical exam is not required to receive coverage from a Pumpkin policy.

We don’t have an age limit or extra waiting period for hip dysplasia coverage.

Pets of all ages get coverage for hip dysplasia with Pumpkin as long as they do not show symptoms or get treatment before enrolling or during the waiting period. Our hip dysplasia waiting period is the same as with any other illness: 14 days. Healthy Paws only covers hip dysplasia in dogs age 6 or younger at the time of enrollment. There is also a 365-day waiting period before hip dysplasia coverage kicks in. If symptoms develop during that time, the condition would be considered pre-existing, and your pet would not be eligible for coverage.

We offer a 10% Fur Family Discount when you enroll additional pets.

We know pet care can be expensive – especially when you have more than one four-legged family member to budget for. That’s why we offer a 10% discount for each additional pet you enroll. Healthy Paws doesn’t offer multi-pet discounts.
